The most important cannabinoids from the cannabis plant

What are cannabinoids?

You certainly have not missed that the cannabis plant is an impressive, medically very valuable plant, otherwise you would not have landed here. The reason for this is the cannabinoids contained in it. Cannabinoids are a class of chemical compounds. They affect the cannabinoid receptors in cells of the human and animal body and thereby alter messenger substances in the brain, which are then released. There are at least 113 already isolated cannabinoids from the hemp plant that have different effects. The following cannabinoid overview gives you information about the possible effects of the most famous cannabinoids.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

THC is probably the most studied cannabinoid. It is the predominantly intoxicant and thus psychoactive ingredient of the hemp plant, which is why it is subject to the Narcotics Act in the European Union. THC is said to have significant medicinal properties, such as:

  • help with muscle cramps
  • supported the growth of new nerve cells
  • stimulate the appetite
  • reduce the number of free radicals
  • promote relaxation
  • reduce the damage to the nerves
  • mitigate some forms of cancer
  • Reduce glaucoma
  • relieve neural pain
  • reduce pain
  • strongly affect the psyche
  • soften feelings of nausea

Cannabidiol (CBD)

CBD is the non-psychoactive main constituent of the cannabis plant. It is the second best known cannabinoid after THC. CBD is legal in the EU because of its non-psychoactive effect. Together with THC can create a synergy effect. Its properties should be as diverse as the THC. Accordingly, CBD is said to have the following properties:

  • help with nausea
  • stimulate the bone structure
  • protect the nerves
  • Reduce and inhibit inflammation
  • Alleviate epilepsy
  • lower high blood sugar levels
  • have a supporting effect in cancer therapy
  • loosen muscle spasms
  • to reduce pain

Cannabichromen (CBC)

CBC is the cannabinoid that is the third most abundant in the hemp plant. In some strains, it may also be that the active ingredient CBC is more dominant than CBD. CBC has no intoxicating effect like CBD. CBC should be

  • antibacterial
  • antidepressant
  • antifungal
  • antitumoral
  • reassuring
  • anti-inflammatory
  • building up bones
  • regenerating (cell function)
  • pain relieving (only in conjunction with THC)
  • supportive (function of the blood cells)

Cannabinol (CBN)

CBN is only marginally found in very young cannabis plants. Due to the drying and storage of certain cannabis strains, the amount of CBN is quite high. CBN has a very slightly intoxicating effect and is an oxidation product of THC. Some of the more notable effects of CBN on the human body, it is said to be:

  • have an anti-asthmatic effect
  • have an antibacterial effect
  • have a calming effect to support sleep
  • stimulate the appetite
  • Reduce inflammation
  • reduce free radicals
  • Relax muscles
  • Alleviate pain
  • increase bone density over time
  • Increase skin health, treat burns
  • have anti-inflammatory effects
  • have a pain relieving effect
  • have an anti-anxiety effect

Cannabigerol (CBG)

CBG is not psychoactive and is therefore not subject to the Narcotics Act in the European Union. This cannabinoid is found mainly in the young growth stage of the cannabis plant, which makes it difficult to obtain in large quantities later on. The current science says that CBG:

  • antibacterial effect
  • has antitumoral properties
  • lowers the intraocular pressure
  • relieves the pain (more than THC)
  • a possible treatment for psoriasis is
  • is slightly antifungal
  • moderately antidepressant

Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)

THCV has a low psychoactive effect compared to THC and should attenuate recent research into some of the negative effects of THC. THCV can:

  • appetite suppressant
  • a possible help for diabetics
  • fat-reducing effect (helps with overweight)
  • have an antispasmodic effect
  • be neuroprotective (neuroprotective)
  • be metabolically stimulating
